Michigan State is dropping its 10-year waiting period for former punter Mike Sadler.

The school announced its latest Hall of Fame class Tuesday and it included Sadler, who was killed in a car crash July 23 with Nebraska punter Sam Foltz. The two, along with LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye, who suffered minor injuries, were returning from a kicking camp in Wisconsin.

“Mike Sadler embodied everything great about being a Spartan,” Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis said in a statement. “His excellence on the football field and in the classroom was surpassed only by the first-class manner in which he represented not only Spartan football, but Michigan State University. After careful consideration and a thorough examination of his credentials, we decided to waive the waiting period and induct him immediately.”

Sadler was a four-time academic All-American, the first in Michigan State history. He has the second-most punts and total punting yardage at MSU.

Sadler and seven other former players will be inducted into the school’s hall of fame on Sep. 22. The eight will then be honored during Michigan State’s game against Wisconsin on Sep. 24.

Other football players inducted with Sadler next month are Eric Allen and Steve Juday. Allen was a running back and ran track from 1969-1971. Juday played quarterback from 1963-1966 and was the QB on MSU’s 1965 national title team.
